Autumn term time Community Forest

Come and join us this Autumn term every Tuesday morning for something a little different for all the family to enjoy as the woodland as it transforms with bursts of new colours, textures and sounds as we move into autumn!!
will we see the leaves swirl and dance and fall from the trees? how do the move as the fall in the air? what does the woodland smell like in autumn? what does the woodland sound like? will we spot wildlife foraging for fruits and seeds as our forests’ birds and animals prepare for winter. what birds will arrive and leave on migration adventures to warmer climates? What plants, berries, seeds or nuts will have grown? What can we forage for and what is safe to eat? what fantastic fungi will we discover? what insects are about because of the season and weather? with increase in morning dew at this time of year what wonderful intricate webs will we find among the hedgerows and grasses?

So many discoveries to be made with a new season upon us. We will use this time to learn movements and songs and stories about the Forest, these changes and growth of new life around us, we will be experimenting with different ways of moving around, across, over and under through the woodland using only the natural abilities of our body to develop our gross motor skills and strengthen our muscles and always as each week we will cook up different yummy snacks over the campfire as a team.. So come and explore, investigate and play or rest in the hammocks in the dappled shade of the tree canopies in our magical woodland site and as always join us as we cook up lots of yummy treats over the campfire.

I have been taking my three boys of 8,6 and 5 years old to Mimi's forest school for a year and a half now. It is the absolute highlight of our week and every single session is enjoyed immensly by all of us. Seeing the woods change throughout the year and being part of it through the seasons and weather changes has been glorious. Each week we make different things with various tools, cook on the fire, explore nature in the woods. It is very hands on for the children and adults and everyone mucks in. It has exposed my children to new skills and has built resilience in them. Mimi and Jake teach and support the children superbly in their learning of the woods. I honestly can't speak highly enough about our weekly experiences. The boys come home happy and fulfilled every week that we attend and bursting with enthusiasm for the following week
